This page lists topics that you have researched, mostly in the library at Jorgenfist. The number represents the last research roll for Rahab + Kara’s assist. They generally go from easier to harder to discover.

  • The Runelords (72)
  • Karzoug (65)
  • Xin-Shalast (62)
    • Xin-Shalast is a legendary lost city, rumored to be hidden somewhere in the Kodar Mountains. Stories hold that Xin-Shalast had gold streets and gemstone buildings, and sat under the gaze of a mountain that could see.
    • Xin-Shalast was the capital city of an empire called Shalast, one of seven that composed the ancient empire of Thassilon. Legend holds that Xin-Shalast lay at the headwaters of the sacred River Avah—which Varisian folklore says leads to an earthly paradise sacred to Desna. Unfortunately, no record of where this river may have once flowed exists today, and most scholars believe the river itself to have been destroyed during Earthfall.
    • Xin means “imperial” or “throne of” – and was the name of the first emperor of Thassilon
    • In the final centuries before Earthfall ended Thassilon, Xin-Shalast was ruled by Runelord Karzoug, one of the lords of the Thassilonian Empire. The primary architects of the immense city were tribes of giants, themselves ruled by powerful beings known as rune giants.
    • The Spires of Xin-Shalast stand upon the mythical mountain of Mhar Massif. This mountain of legendary proportions pierces the skies above the Kodars, and is said to be the highest peak in the entire range of stupendously inhospitable mountains.
    • The Spires of Xin-Shalast stand upon the mythical mountain of Mhar Massif. This mountain of legendary proportions pierces the skies above the Kodars, and is said to be the highest peak in the entire range of stupendously inhospitable mountains.
    • Mhar Massif is said to serve as a bridge to strange realms beyond Golarion—notably, to the nightmare dimension of Leng. The connections with the nightmare realm of Leng were said to have infused the region around the peak of Mhar Massif with dangerous eldritch and otherworldly energies.
  • Rune Magic (64)
    • Rune magic is a vastly complex form or magic, usually dependent on blood sacrifice (often in large numbers), powerful glyph-laying, and dimensional warping.
    • Could combine multiple magical effects in unexpected and extremely complex ways, resulting in spells that did more, lasted longer, and generally were beyond any normall accessible means of spellcasting.
    • Rune magic could be used to bind creatures into servitude. Much of Thassilon’s legions consisted of runebound creatures, in particular Giants and some dragons.
    • Complex effects on time and space could be achieved through Rune Magic, including partially stopping time, extending life, etc. Rune magic is often tied to specfic personality traits (good and bad).
    • Runes could also be used to “harvest energy” from creatures along the lines of certain traits. The Sihedron Rune in particular could be used for this. It is alleged to have been granted to Xin by powerful primordial creatures and Lissala herself, and is based on the language of creation.
  • Runeforge
    • Runeforge was created as a place where agents of the seven runelords could gather to study magic.
    • The Runeforge was a central magical research institution across the Thassilonian empire.
    • The runelords wove wards around Runeforge that barred entrance into the complex to any runelord or his direct agents, in order to keep the research within free from sabotage at the hands of an enemy.
    • Runeforge’s magical enhancements sustained those within without the need to eat, drink, or even sleep.
    • The Runeforge was one of the only places where the seven disciplines of Thassilonian magic would come together to share knowledge and work on cross-disciplinary magic. The seven Runelords bound themesleves by edict not to enter the Runeforge to prevent them from interfering with the work.
    • Researchers in the Runeforge were chosen by the Runelords – and then sealed in by each Runelord’s magic for life. The Runeforge provided everything needed by the occupants.
    • The research done in the Runeforge was among the most dangerous and esoteric done during the existence of the empire. Many of those who work there were consumed by madness, or by things they had summoned, or any number of experiments gone awry.
    • The final project the runelords set Runeforge on was the development of ways the runelords could escape the imminent fall of their empire. Each faction developed a unique answer for its runelord, based upon the underlying principles of that faction’s magical traditions.
    • A particularly recent report on the works of the Runeforge implies that their work was pushing the boundaries of magic regarding the passage of time.
  • Xaliasa
    • There is one obscure reference to Xaliasa as a confidant of Runelord Alaznist
    • Another reference to the name indicates he was a cleric of Lamashtu
  • Other Topics
    • Malek Golono – no information in the library
